Well, this is it… The countdown to the final show of the season! Those of you looking at the points will know if you are in the running for trophies or not. A few surprises are always thrown up, as well as the extra trophies we don’t tell you about until Presentation Night, so keep Saturday 26th November free! Tickets will be on sale at the September show, so get yours and ensure a front row seat! We will be at Holiday Inn Runcorn, as you know, and we are hoping to negotiate room discounts for those of you wishing to stay. I’ll keep you informed as I get the details.

We have our Junior quiz and newsletter as usual, make sure you get your completed quizzes sent in with your pre entries, or bring along on show morning to hand in ready for the prize draw from all correct entries. We always have some lovely prizes!

If you were lucky enough to win one of the perpetual trophies at our September Championship Show, you need to return it as soon as possible.

On the show day is NOT acceptable. Please contact Rowena to arrange returning your trophy on 07759079729. For Presentation Night perpetual trophies, these MUST be returned by the September show. Every year we have to chase one or two, and it’s ridiculous that we risk someone not receiving their trophy on the big night due to someone being too thoughtless to return it. Believe me, you do NOT want a visit from me the night before Presentation to collect it! So keep your chairman happy and return them all to the September show.

Summer is merrily bowling along, and it’s hard to believe that we have had four shows already! The points tables are shaping up nicely, you can see these on the website. Remember we present 1st – 4th overall, so there is always the chance of a trophy at the end of the year! A printed version of the points book will be at the next show, for those of you who want a browse on the day.

Details of our Training/ Fun Day are featured in this newsletter too. I’m sure the clinic places will go like mad, so get your entries in quickly! You can download the Training Day entry form here.

Our car park has returned to normal, as the haylage has finally been cut and baled. I will still ask that all cars park by the hedges, away from the horsebox lines for safety purposes, but you will have more room now for both parking and working in!

Here we are kicking on through the season and it’s already June! We are getting geared up toward the second half of the season now, and have been busily organizing the prizes, rosettes and sashes for the North West Show Jumping Finals, the North West Working Hunter Finals and the Blue Chip Showing Finals.

They all look absolutely stunning, and I am proud to say that no competitor will go home without a rosette and prize of the medal/trophy/ commemorative badge variety. We like to make a fuss of our competitors! So I wish all of you the best of luck in qualifying for these fab finals. I promise you will NOT be disappointed.

We will be having some new jumps arriving before the finals (had my design head on again), and I look forward to seeing you try them out…

Well the weather held beautifully, didn’t it? Lots of lovely sunshine in April gave us a fantastic first two shows. So lovely to see old friends and also to make new ones. Welcome to all you new members and welcome back to you familiar faces!

R.I.P…to our old caravan! I’m afraid age and being buried in the ground (very mobile) finally caught up with our old ‘secretary’s office’, and he has shuffled off to the scrapyard in the sky. Our new operations hub is a little more glamorous, as you will see at the next show!! We’re very pleased with it.

Plenty of stuff going on in this newsletter, so have a good read. Fun day details, last chance for Lynn Russell places, charity details and of course our fantastic junior hope it’s providing important information on pony care as well as the usual fun and games.

As I write, the sun is shining and it’s really beginning to feel like spring is here at last.

It’s really not far away from the first show on April 10th!!!! I hope you are all ready and the horses are all looking fantastic. Can I PLEASE ask that if you have not yet sent your membership that you do so before the show? It’s always really busy in the caravan on first show mornings, and if you have already joined and pre-entered there will be no hold ups in the queue!

And, trying to corner the market, this year we will start the Bluechip North West Showing Finals, to go with the show jumping and working hunter finals. There will be something for everyone, so see below for details!

Well, what a weekend we had over the Bank Holiday… The Show Jumping Championships were their usual runaway success, and the new Working Hunter Championships made a fantastic start. The weather wasn’t ideal, but the ground held well in both rings and the courses were superb. Well done to Becky in the SJ and Adrian in the WH for the fantastic course building.

And to those of you who attended, congratulations for qualifying and extremely well done for representing the club in such a positive way. Some of you had extra special results, and I was really pleased to see our members doing so well. It’s always a proud moment for me to present our members with prizes in a line up with other good riders from other clubs and shows.

Championship Show this month! Click here to see class details for details. Unfortunately, we are still missing two trophies from last year’s September show that need to be brought back immediately. The 2 Family Ring trophies are missing and we have had no answers at the contact details left with us. The Ridden trophy was won by Kate Zygaddllo and the In Hand trophy by Emma Clarke. Ladies, please return these trophies, or someone else will lose out this year. Or if anyone is in contact with them, please inform Kate and Emma that we want our trophies back. Thanks!

I also need to ask anyone who still has any perpetual trophies from last year’s Presentation Night to return them at the September Show. It’s not a pleasant experience to have a visit from me the week before Presentation to pick up the trophies, and everyone has had plenty of time to get engraving done. Please make our job as committee easier and more pleasant by returning them.

PRESENTATION NIGHT

The date is Saturday November 27th, at Rumours nightclub at Lostock Social Club (CW9 7NW) (I’m sorry, it still sounds like something out of Phoenix Nights). It’s actually a bigger venue, so there will be loads of room for everyone!

You will need to pre-book, and tickets will be kept to last year’s price of £6 adults and £4 children, and that includes a buffet. I know, good, eh? So please get in touch and let us know.

We will send out a list of trophy winners after the points are collated after the final show, so you will all know what you have won. The big overall trophies are of course kept secret until the night, along with special merit trophies. It could be you!

First place in each class automatically gets a rosette, but if you want the tail print personalised (whatever you like, within reason!) it’s just an extra £4.

For those not so lucky, you can purchase a rosette with personalisation for £10. These will be a different colour to the champion rosettes. Sashes are also available with 3 lines of printing for £10. A form will be sent with the points list. And for all you newbies out there, these rosettes are VERY large!!!

There’s a raffle with great prizes, disco, games for the juniors, and it’s a great evening. We can’t wait!

I feel like I’ve been away from all this for ages…. I’ve just got back from my honeymoon in Rome! 40 degrees and beautiful, the Eternal City is well worth a visit (wouldn’t want to ride in that heat though)! Many thanks to all of you who wished us well, on the club site and on Facebook. If you are a friend of mine on FB, there are loads of pics and a video or two there. I am being persuaded to put a photo of me arriving on horseback at the Castle on the club website, watch that space!

We had a fab day at the Fun Day, with many requests to hold another. Any suggestions for anything you’d like to see or try, let me know. I’ve been interviewed this month for our Junior newsletter. I notice Billy Twomey got ‘What’s your favourite horse colour?’ while I get ‘How do you deal with any negative comments people may make about the club?’!! Terrifying. A bit Frost/Nixon… But let’s encourage our younger members, they are the club’s future, after all!

So I look forward to seeing you all at the July show, don’t forget your membership cards if you want the highest placed member rosette! It must be with you in the ring, or no rosette.

Congratulations to…. Lynn!!!!
Many of you know committee member Lynn Salmon, usually to be found stewarding the showing ring and proprietor of Whitegate Stud. Well, earlier this year she entered a heat of the Search for a Star Steward competition, one of only 5 held around the country, to find top class stewards for the Search for a Star finals at the Horse of the Year Show in October (see box on right). Lynn won her heat, stewarding everything from ridden ponies to working hunter and went to the final on 18th July at Vale View EC in Melton Mowbray. She worked extremely hard and I’m delighted to tell you she won Reserve Champion! I’m sure you will all wish her well and congratulate her, she represented this club really well at a very prestigious event!

Trip to HOYS

Wednesday 7th October. Let us know if you are interested in a trip to see the Horse of the Year Show, our own Treasurer Helen Platt will be competing in the Search for a Star Class. Reduced price group tickets and coach travel. If you’re interested, please email us!

Well, isn’t the weather glorious for May?! (Insert sarcastic insult here). I keep expecting the sun to come out and the beautiful spring weather to take hold, but all I see out of the window is dull, dull, dull. No matter, with any luck we will have stunning sunshine for the show on the 23rd. Which will be a medal show, so all first place winners will have some bling. It’s also a qualifier for our NWSJC and NWWHC, along with the Midlands finals, Greater Manchester Finals and the UK Showing championships.

We are looking forward to another successful show. It was great to see you all in April, despite the downpour just after lunch. The ground held beautifully, though, so your showground is in fantastic condition.

July Show

July will be a ‘Highest Placed Member’ show, where the highest placed member in each class will receive a special rosette. You MUST have your membership card with you in the ring to receive your rosette!! No exceptions. No card, no rosette. Please contact Carol if you have yet to receive your card.

A Bit Of Clarification

Just want to clear something up, due to people not wanting to compete when it rained at the last show. If WE abandon classes, your entries will be forwarded on to the next show. If YOU choose not to compete after making an entry, that’s your decision and you would forfeit your entry fee.

Charity

Our charities for last month each received £30, the takings of Clear Round split between the Brooke Hospital for Animals and the Manchester Children’s Hospital. Well done to you for competing, every penny can make a difference.

This month we are championing the Cardiac Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital. They have been looking after one or two of our competitors, who would like to give something back. GOSH really needs no introduction, go and look at their website at http://www.ich.ucl.ac.uk/. Our equine charity will be Jigsaw, the Mawdesley Equine and People Trust. Jigsaw rescue and rehabilitate horses and ponies, and also provide training and courses for people from all walks of life. Check out their worthwhile cause at http://www.equinextra.com/index.htm

Sponsor A Class!

At the May show you will have the chance to sponsor a set of rosettes for a class at the July show. This was a great success last year, it cost £10 to have a set of rosette tails printed (and you get one to keep!). Promote a business, remember a loved one, or just to show off. Committee member Jane Gerrard will be going round the show to find sponsors, so make sure you don’t miss her.

You will also have the chance to sponsor a set of rosettes for the North West Working Hunter Championships. 12 big, beautiful rosettes, perfect for promotion, and don’t forget there will be people from all over the North West and beyond who will see your rosettes. Grab the opportunity!

In fact, if you want to sponsor a class at the finals and donate prizes, vouchers, saddlecloths, treats, feed, whatever, then I want to hear from you. It’s a chance to get in at the start of what promises to be an event every bit as popular and prestigious as the North West Show Jumping finals!

Our next show is Sunday 25th April. Don’t forget that this coming show is a Trophy show, with trophies to all class winners.  Schedule can found here.

Qualifiers at this months show include UK Showing Finals, Greater Manchester Showing Finals, Midlands Championships, North West Working Hunter Championships and North West Show Jumping Championships.

Entry forms can be found here, so please get them to Carol before Thursday. If you entered the last show, your entries have been carried forward. If you cannot attend, please contact Carol as entries will not automatically carry over a second time. If she knows the situation, she can organise your entries!

Replacement Show

I know it’s disappointing to lose a show early in the season, but it will be replaced and will run on August 15th. That way, you get your full quota of six shows!

Charity

Previous members will remember that we donate the proceeds from each show’s clear round to charity, splitting between a horse and a human charity. This month we are patronising the Brooke Hospital for Animals and Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Our own Gill Hanley is doing a charity run for MCH so we are proud to support her and the good works both these charities do.
